Some kids playing near their Las Vegas neighborhood stumbled onto the body of an African American female. A victim of a knife attack, the sight of the body was gruesome. It was bloody. It was horrifying. The kids, likely traumatized for life, when questioned by authorities, could only cry for their mothers. But that was not the significant takeaway from the event. It was only the beginning. A preliminary investigation found that the murder had taken place at a convention center, some five miles away. It was unclear how the body ended up in a Walmart parking lot near a residential neighborhood.
Police assumed the case was a random act and based their investigation on that assumption. During the investigation, however, the body count rose to eight.
